29-year-old Slovenian cyclist Matej Mohoric was unsure of his future and wanted to quit after the tragic passing of Gino Mader. Mader was a promising 26-year-old Swiss cyclist who was part of the same team as Mohoric. However, more than a teammate, Mohoric considered Mader to be one of his closest friends. Thus, when the Swiss met an untimely demise while on his descent at the Tour De Suisse in June, the entire community was shocked. 

This sudden tragedy significantly impacted his team and Mohoric in particular. While in the mourning process, the haunting occurrence made him question his own association with the sports. The Slovenian now has managed to come out of his dilemma and continue to strive hard for victory to honor his dear friend. 

Matej Mohoric’s cycling dilemma while reflecting on his bond with Mader

Matej Mohoric stated that his mind was clouded with several dilemmas after witnessing the death of Mader. Mohoric stated that he began to question whether all the hard work and efforts were worth it. He said,When something like that happens then you of course consider quitting. You question why you are doing this and if it is really worth it”. Further, he also reflected on his special bond with Gino Mader.

The cyclist spoke about their tightly knit ratio. While speaking about Mader, Mohoric mentioned, A young man lost his life like that. He was a really good person. We were very close with him, and I probably spent more days with Gino together in the room than with my brothers and sisters.” 

The Slovenian also said that he felt that Mader’s untimely demise might be a part of God’s plan. The 29-year-old stated that Gino Mader must have been “too good” for this world and that’s why he left the Earth so soon. While these happenings made him doubtful about his career, Mohoric’s team came to his rescue.

Mohoric’s team ensured that none of the players had a negative mental state. They constantly spoke with the team members and provided support to everyone whenever they needed it. Such a wonderful initiative made the team gel well and work even harder for their upcoming Tour De France campaign. This time, they wanted to win it for their friend, Gino Mader.

Indeed, their determination was reflected as they had one of the best performances in the Tour De France. The team clinched three stage victories that included Wout Poels, Pello Bilbao, and of course, Matej Mohoric. Now, Mohoric wants to continue his cycling journey and win more accolades to honor his dearest friend.
