Michael Sch?r’s struggles and triumphs as a 6’5″ Cyclist

Michael Sch?r, with an incredible height of 6 feet and 5 inches, was struggling in a field that has continued to demand agility and aerodynamics as the first things to qualify. But Sch?r was way too determined to let go of the career that he was most passionate about.

It was not only the physiological challenges that he had to deal with. Besides struggling with the challenges posed by his remarkable height he had to also deal with another major issue. And that was finding the right-sized equipment that he required at any cost to fulfill his dreams.

Sch?r was recently caught in a candid interview session. In the recently released episode of Bobby & Jens Sch?r said, I was always too tall actually for the XL frame of every brand,” referring to his prolonged struggle to find the right equipment for himself.

But Sch?r did not know to press a pause as he was steadfast in finding the right fit for himself. He did not step back, although it demanded him do a few crazy things.

From franken-stems to podium dreams

Sch?r’s unyielding spirit made him ride through the grueling Paris-Roubaix on a 170 mm stem to accommodate his extraordinarily long reach. We tried so much different stuff: 180 cranks, then we had 190 cranks”, shared Sch?r.

But slowly, with passing days, things fell into place. Sch?r further added, “It got more relaxed, my position. From a 150 to a 140 stem, to now it?s a 130. It?s always getting a bit more ready for retirement.”
