Laura Kenny, a notable name in the British riding community, is now poised for a staggering comeback to the Olympics. However, besides her high-paced training sessions, there was another significant responsibility under the 31-year-old’s wings. 

Pro cycling athlete balances races in life

After welcoming her second son in July, Kenny’s cycling career saw a temporary halt in pro racing leagues. While juggling the duties of motherhood alongside her sheer passion for the podium, the dedicated rider hoped for a speedy comeback. And gladly, she efficiently managed to do so, gearing up for the Paris Olympics next summer. Flaunting an illustrious career, Laura etched this return, that too with an everlasting smile!

However, Laura’s course in cycling races had its own troubles, with setbacks including a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy in January 2022 that paused her career for a while. But nothing could deter her enthusiasm for pedal rides, as she refused to succumb to these recurring issues, overcoming these hardships one at a time. 

Eclipsing her competitors, Kenny’s latest cycling victories echoed her persistent trails in velodrome championships, securing a podium spot during the Commonwealth Games. While playing for Team GB, the iconic cyclist’s track performances in August this year saw a remarkable attempt to maintain her dominant reputation. 

High-paced passion seizes dynamic revival 

Neah Evans and Elinor Barker won the world title in the Madison games, while Laura’s pedals for the British team saw lots of energetic efforts. Laura was accompanied on the trip by her sisters, Megan Barker, Katie Archibald, Josie Knight, and Anna Morris.

Winning gold in the World Championships for the first time in nine years, this joint squad’s hard-earned pursuits seemingly had prosperous results for the seasoned cyclist. While finding solace in bearing her second boy, Montgomery, Laura initially speculated if she could ever make a comeback to on-track games. 

Nonetheless, the British rider eventually planned a return, now hoping for a triumphant Paris season. Expressing details on her candid cycling battles, Laura remarked, “I was a bit terrified”, while she added, “For me, it’s always been to race again. I just want to race again.” With a thorough preparation for the track cycling events next year, her eyes are set on its inauguration on August 5, 2024
