John Thompson is a young ultra-cyclist whose life’s narrative unfolds as a tale of triumph over his own personal demons. His childhood days were not as easygoing and gleeful as it was supposed to be. 13-year-old Thompson visited the psychologist with his parents because of the fear of being ?crazy?. His parents noticed the changes and decided to take a bold step forward for the betterment of young Thompson. He was diagnosed with clinical depression and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.
That was the same time when he began his training for the first triathlon. With medication, therapy, and his achieving goals in the field of sports, he continued in a good space till he entered his university days. With a sense of responsibility and independence, a sudden unexpected ?toxic? phase unfolded for Thompson. He began to lose control over himself as he engaged himself in drugs and late-night partying.

Thompson reflected on his struggles against his mental health condition, ?I?ve never felt ashamed to talk about my mental health struggles. People have said to me things like ?I?m down, but I can?t talk to anyone?. I?ve always found that quite strange, because I?ve felt very comfortable?. Thompson shared with STM in Spain ?I wanted to create a film, documenting one of my adventures, and actually film them as a way of talking about my own struggles with mental health.??

He further continued to reveal his strategies and said, ?Exercise as a tool is really powerful for me, I get an endorphin rush ??. Thompson reflected on the achievements of his proudest year in 2022 as he Everest-ed 52 times besides riding 1 million meters of elevation. He raised $500,000 for mental health that year.
