On 15th October, Sam Travers will be making a presence at the Amsterdam Marathon, while his brother, Joe Travers, is prepping up to take part in the London Marathon on 21 April, next year. Although the marathons do not include strenuous and physically challenging feats, they hold a special place for the two brothers.

The marathons serve as a platform for the brothers to pay back to the hospice, which played a crucial role in offering solace to the family during a distressing period. Their father was initially diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which took him 13 years to recover before passing away from prostate cancer that ascertained his arduous journey living with the terminal disease.

In a statement made to the Derbyshire Times about his dad’s experience during his stay at the hospice, “Everyone went above and beyond for him! To the point where he said he felt like he was on holiday when he was there – the number of sorbets he saw off might have helped”

Sam, on the other hand, plans to add a touch of twist during the marathon, taking part adorned in fancy attire. With this move, he aims to shift the focus on completing the race and draw attention to the supporting cause that will revolve around the event.

Joe recently completed a cycling expedition that extended for eight days across the treacherous terrain of the Pyrenees, constituting elevation higher than Mount Everest. During this undertaking, he drew inspiration from the passion for cycling the brothers shared with their father as they earlier participated in charity bike rides. As a means of excelling in the marathon and to avoid previous mistakes, Sam is undergoing vigorous physical training to elevate his fitness level.
