12-Year-Old Girl From Milwaukee Hit by a Vehicle While Cycling to School

A noticeable increase in bicycle accidents in recent times has raised concerns about road safety. In the serene town of Waukee, Iowa, a 12-year-old girl’s morning bicycle ride took a sudden turn of terror. At approximately 7:40 a.m., just north of Waukee Middle School, the young cyclist’s life was changed forever. Shockingly, she was struck by a vehicle during her bicycle ride. 

With an astonishing twist, the driver of the car was revealed to be a 15-year-old girl. The incident has prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities. The unfortunate clash has provoked debates about the age and experience of young drivers. Accelerating counts of these events underscore the urgent need for enhanced road safety. It also instigates a call for responsible driving practices.

A close call while cycling 

The unprecedented incident took place on Thursday morning, marking the young girl’s encounter with a nerve-wracking collision. The injured girl was rushed to the Blank Children’s Hospital for immediate medical care. Fortunately, she is expected to recover. However, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the increase in road accidents revolving around cyclists.

While the little girl is safe, several other instances of similar clashes have been recorded in the past few months. In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a hit-and-run incident left an 11-year-old boy in critical condition. The accident took place in August 2023. The vehicle involved had callously fled the scene, heading eastbound on W. Fond Du Lac Ave. Such reckless behavior on the road has led to thought-provoking discussions, with many communities sharing genuine anguish. 

Milwaukee’s hit-and-run leaves cyclist in critical condition

The young cyclist was struck while crossing the road on his bicycle at approximately 3:15 p.m. when he was riding along West Fond Du Lac Ave. Milwaukee Police are now actively seeking the driver of the white 4-door car. Khamonte Washington, the young victim’s friend who was with him during the incident, recounted the horrifying moment of impact. “I just wanna bust down in tears”, he shared. 

After the dreadful clash took place, the people around immediately rushed to the scene to provide assistance. Good Samaritan Donald Scroggins was among those who offered support. “It was a lot of cars and then I saw the kids laying down in the grass, and I was wondering what was going on”, he elaborated. 11-year-old Khamonte expressed his gratitude for Scroggins’ kindness, stating, “He’s a kind man.” The victim’s grandmother, Lurithea James, voiced her concern for the injured boy, issuing a heartfelt plea to the irresponsible driver. She urged them to turn themselves in, expressing her disgrace, quoting, “Hitting a baby, come on now.” With a haunting sadness in her voice, she prayed for the child’s betterment, exclaiming, “I hope the little boy makes it because I just fed the baby.”
