Your health is never to be taken for granted. No matter who you are and the life you’ve led, it is always important to be cautious of your physical and mental health. A spontaneous lifestyle and bad habits can definitely make you more prone to issues but even if you lead the ideal healthy routine, life has a way of coming at you. In all likelihood, such was the case with Cofidis rider Wesley Kreder. The Dutchman recently suffered from a heart attack that left him hospitalized for over a week.
The 32-year-old experienced myocarditis-inflammation of the heart muscle and was rushed to the hospital on the night of August 28. He remained in the facility until September 6. Since being released, he shared an update, claiming he was “so happy to be alive.”

Kreder relived his traumatic week, explaining how he had fallen asleep in his own bed but woke up in the hospital the next day. He recounted his stint in the hospital, talking about all the various tests he had to undergo. “Now, I feel good. It’s hard to think that I had a heart attack two weeks ago,” he added.
While Kreder has been focused on recovery, he has still been taking walks to get back on his feet. However, his primary focus is resting and taking care of his children. Simultaneously, his physical health is tracked and monitored by his team’s medical personnel. While doctors have not ruled out Kreder returning to his bike, the Dutchman thinks it is too early to think about that yet. “Now is not the time to plan ahead but to recover well and enjoy. I am so happy to be alive,” he adds.
He also extended heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to his loved ones, specifically mentioning his partner, his in-laws, as well as his medical team.

Kreder has been with Cofidis since the beginning of the 2022 season after having been with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. The determined Dutchman has had two professional victories in his career so far. He has won the 2016 ZLM Tour in his home country, The Netherlands, while also winning the Tour de Vendée in 2012.
Unfortunately, he recently pulled out of the Tour of Poland in August 2023. Interestingly, his team claims his reasons for withdrawing were unrelated to his heart condition. They released a statement announcing the decision, claiming the decision was taken together as a team. “The whole Cofidis team warmly wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back on the roads soon,” they added
