Vittoria Bussi became the first woman to break the 50km barrier in cycling. She smashed the previous UCI Hour Record and set a new benchmark of 50.267km. The Italian surpassed the existing record of 49.254km set by Ellen Van Dijk in 2022. Previously, she held the record of 48.00 km between September 2018 and September 2021.
The 36-year-old is in the best form of her life. Physically she is in fantastic shape and has worked hard on her fitness. However, she would like to continue her form and break many records in the future.

Vittoria is one of the finest athletes the world has ever seen. Cycling as a sport is very taxing on the body, especially the distances she covers. A lot of preparation goes into it and Vittoria works really hard to maintain her level. Breaking the 50km barrier is one of the toughest task in cycling. Vittoria initially created the record of 48 kms and held onto it for three years. Joscelin Lowden briefly broke this record in 2021 before Ellen Van Dijk took over.

Vittoria credits her success to her team and her preparation. Globalcyclingnetwork, shared some of her comments regarding her achievements.
“I’m thrilled to have beaten the UCI Hour Record by Tissot for the second time in my career, covering the distance of 50.267km on the same velodrome where I previously broke it in 2018,”
“I owe this to all those who supported me throughout the year, believing in me and my project. This achievement is the result of outstanding teamwork, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to make it happen.”

She is an all-rounder in a genuine sense. Apart from cycling, she holds a Ph.D. Degree in pure mathematics from the University of Oxford. The Italian is an authentic example of talent. She also organized a fundraiser during the event in order to raise funds for charity. The fundraiser proved to be a massive success as a total of €12,064 was raised during the event.
Story of Determination and Hard Work
They planned the initial event for October 11. However, due to a change in weather conditions, the event had to be postponed. The delay did not stop Vittoria from achieving her target. She proved to the world that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. At 36 years of age, she is in her prime and is breaking records for fun. Hopefully, she will continue for many more years and keep motivating us.
