Jumbo-Visma team director Merijn Zemen cleared all the air after the Vuelta A Espana race. The race took a massive turn after the team members overtook each other. Sepp Kuss looked very comfortable during the race. However, the race took a turn after his teammates overtook him.

Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard took the lead during Stage 17 of the race. Sepp, along with the other members, looked very surprised. However, the American went on to win the Grand Tour, eventually. The entire incident raised some questions about teamwork and coordination.

After the race was over, the team director cleared all the doubts regarding the race. According to the director, there was a lack of teamwork among the members. The race did not go as planned and the team lost some important points. Both Roglic and Vingegaard finished the races 1st and 2nd consecutively. Kuss suffered a very popular defeat by his own teammates. There seems to be some tension inside the camp among the cyclists.

Eurosport shared some thoughts of the Director regarding the whole incident. He seemed to be disappointed with how the race turned out.

“Everything went the way we wanted again. There were three of us left and that was actually the moment when things didn’t go well,” Zeeman said. “Sepp couldn’t keep up with Primoz and Jonas at one point. Then there was no more teamwork.

In the final stages of the race, Kuss worked really hard and took the third place. He out-sprinted Mikel Landa of Bahrain and secured some points. However, the American lost some important points in the process. No one expected that the race would end like this. The gap between him and Vingegaard dropped down to just eight seconds. By the looks of it, not everything is ok between the teammates.

Is This the Beginning of the End?

Jumbo-Visma team management have a tough task ahead. The way the race ended, it has increased a lot of tension between the riders. All three cyclists are world class and have achieved a lot in their careers. It will be tough to bring the three on the same page. Cycling as an event relies a lot on teamwork and sacrifice. Individual efforts hardly make any difference.

All the three riders will have to sit back and reflect upon the entire event. For a team to dominate, teamwork should be top priority. Also, the management needs to take some tough calls after this.
