Lizzi Jordan, a Paralympic cyclist for Team GB, is a phenomenal athlete. Despite the astounding challenges life has thrown at her, she’s managed to not only survive but thrive in a way, many couldn’t have even fathomed. However, life has a way to find things as difficult as they can get. Unfortunately for life, Jordan couldn’t care less.

She is already preparing to compete in the Paralympic Games next year. And while her story is an awe-inspiring Hollywood blockbuster, possibly starring the amazing Hillary Swank, it has also been one of pain and tragedy.

The cyclist does, however, relate an incident that left her unconscious for two months.

Lizzi Jordan- A Paralympian who fought the gods and won

The incident happened when Jordan was a student at the Royal Holloway University and it took her consciousness for a good 2 months. That’s right. At 19, Jordan went into a coma for 2 straight months. And when she came out of it, a bigger shock awaited her.

During her time at the university, studying psychology, Jordan contracted a rare strain of E. coli that took her eyesight. When she woke up from that coma, she was blind. Her vital organs were also severely affected, and her life was at stake. The doctors had even begun to believe that she might not make it out of the ICU.

But she did. Jordan is made up of that rare stuff that one only associates with mythical weapons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Paralympic athletes. She was durable, she was resilient and she had no plans to do what life had planned for her.

Speaking to the Mirror about the life-changing incident, Jordan says:

“It’s your window to the world and how you see and experience everything. I said, ‘I’ve got two options here. I can sit around and feel sorry for myself, or I can try and make something out of my life and maybe achieve something I wouldn’t have done even if I had sight.”

A Story of Determination and Courage

Since then, Jordon has had some truly extraordinary things. She took part in the 2019 London Marathon. She then shifted her focus to cycling. At last year’s Paralympic Games, Jordan won the gold medal in the mixed tandem sprint. And now she looks all set to dominate the next Paralympic Games as well.
