A rising star in professional cycling, Bossuyt faced the grim reality of her two-year ban after testing positive for a prohibited substance. Reported within days of her Tour of Normandy performance, her employer’s zero-tolerance policy triggered a subsequent suspension in March 2023.

Notably, the move echoed a similar situation involving cyclo-cross rider Toon Aerts, who was also banned for two years due to letrozole metabolite usage. Encapsulated in a December 4 verdict from the AFLD, the cycling authorities proposed Bossuyt’s removal while acknowledging the contamination’s unintentional nature. 

As the lack of evidence frustrated her, the Belgian rider emphasized the challenges of proving her intake through food. With candid words, Bossuyt pointed out the mental and professional hardships of this cycling allegation, quoting, “No humanity or nuance, no consultation whatsoever.” “Explain to me how an athlete can be able to prove contamination through food”, she further added.

With no assistance from official reports of reputed bodies like the Food Safety Agency, Bossuyt highlighted her inability to prove her innocence. Citing the staggering costs and time-consuming nature of her doping battles, the pro cycling star decided against an appeal.
