Kiwi para-athlete Nicole Murray won the award for the best summer para-athlete. The award ceremony took place in Bahrain in the presence of some world-class athletes. The 30-year-old cyclist is one of the most consistent performers in 2022. However, Nicole is now focused on the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Murray, who stays in Otorohanga, won two world titles this year at the cycling event. She also won three other World Championship Medals, which set her apart from her competitors. Hopefully, she can continue her form at the 2024 event.

Nicole Murray: A Modern-Era Legend

Nicole is one of the greatest para-athletes of this generation. Not only has she won many medals, but has been a source of inspiration for many. Born and brought up in New Zealand, Murray achieved such success through sheer hard work and commitment. However, being a c5 para athlete did not stop her from achieving her dreams. Paralympics New Zealand, CEO urged the Kiwis to support their team as they head towards Paris,  2024 Paralympic Games.

Nicole, while speaking to nzherald, shared her thoughts after receiving her award, “It is such an honour to be here in Bahrain receiving the Best Female Summer Para Athlete Award. I’m incredibly grateful for all the people who have come along with me on my journey as an athlete – I could not have got to this point in my career alone,” Murray said.

She further said, “Competing on the international stage can be a whirlwind, so I appreciate this chance to pause, reflect on the past season, and celebrate my achievements. How cool to be acknowledged alongside fellow Kiwi Rebecca Foulsham for the amazing work she does as a volunteer. I can’t wait for the next round in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games”

Murray’s Coach Damian Wiseman felt Nicole deserved to win the awards. He feels Nicole had a fantastic 2022 season, where she won 5  World Championship medals. This makes her the only c5 athlete in the world who won more than 1 World Championship Medal. However, Damian credits her success to sheer hard work and dedication.

She is now the athlete to beat

Not only does her coach feel that she is the best athlete. The world also feels that she is the athlete to beat. In today’s modern time, no C5 athlete is better than Nicole. However, Murray will look to continue her form at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Looking at her recent form, it seems she will win medals at the 2024 Paralympic Games as well.

The Paralympic Games are a source of inspiration for many athletes. Each athlete is different but has their own strengths. Nicole has given inspiration to many c5 athletes in the world.
