As the 155.5km cycling race escalated further, it revealed an early break of five riders who kept establishing a substantial lead. With the scenic route through farmland and bush trails marking the peloton’s closing gap, a trio of riders persisted in the break. Involving notable athletes Bauke Mollema, Jonas Rutsch, and Natnael Tesfazion, the scene left them navigating through risky terrains.

Nearing the coast, their cycling dynamics took a shift while passing along iconic locations like Bells Beach. With the diminishing gap making the catch inevitable, the trio was still allowed to sit out front until within the final four kilometers.
