Jeremy Deguire had a lot of dreams now which he might not be able to fulfill anymore! His story is a stark example of how a perfectly fine life can come crashing down within a matter of minutes. Deguire was used to cycling as a convenient mode of transport. While riding his bike on the A-25 bridge on a dark night in September, the teenager from Laval met a gruesome fate that would change the course of his life completely.?

The 18-year-old aimed to go north of the bridge from Montreal to Laval. As things seemed to be going perfectly for Deguire, tragedy struck. His bicycle bumped into the fence, and he tumbled onto the ground. Things only went worse from here.?

As soon as Deguire hit the fence, he knew he had messed up. Fortunately, a couple of pedestrians happened to be present at the spot and took notice of the unconscious teenager. After being rescued, Deguire was rushed to the hospital, where he received immediate medical attention. The doctors did everything possible to have him recover as they inflicted a self-induced coma for stabilization of his vertebrae. Unfortunately, all the efforts did not come out successful, as the doctors were dealing with multiple injuries. These included perforated lung, and fractures in the sternum, ribs, and face.

The impact of such a severe trauma left Deguire paralyzed. Such devastating news hit him like a monster truck. Deguire, who was enrolled in a carpentry course, dreamt of making it big in construction. Unfortunately, now it has become a lot tougher. Echoing the sentiments, Deguire stated, ?Most of my dreams, I can?t do them anymore.??

The teenager also called for the need for better signage and illumination on the bridge. He stated that proper measures from the authorities could prevent a replay of such a fate in the future. With their son facing the darkest times in his life, Deguire?s family is going through a lot, too.?

Financial woes pile up for the Deguire family

If their son being paralyzed wasn?t enough trauma, the family is facing acute financial difficulties as well. They are finding it hard to adapt a wheelchair into their house. As the family resides in a three-storey house, mobility for Deguire is a big challenge.?

Although the family has appealed to Quebec’s Societe d?Habitation for support, the process seems to be lengthy. Stephanie, the teenager?s unfortunate mother stated, ?It?s about $50,000,? Deguire?s mother, Stephanie, said. ?An elevator costs $85,000, we?ve been told. So, it doesn?t even cover that.?? As for Deguire, he is doing his best to keep a positive mindset. With him slowly recovering, we wish that he can overcome the challenges and prosper in life.?
