Born and raised in the picturesque state of Minnesota, Dylan has always held a deep reverence for the wonders of the natural world—an unyielding fascination with bodies of water. For most of his professional life, he soared the skies as a pilot. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the world, grounding aircraft and unsettling lives, Dylan found himself at crossroads.
With a combination of carefully saved earnings and prudent investments, Dylan made a life-altering decision during this unforeseen pause. He resolved to rekindle his bond with the great outdoors and embrace a more physically active lifestyle. His exploratory journey commenced with hiking escapades that led him to far-flung corners of the globe. It was during a sojourn in the enchanting landscapes of France that fate intervened. There, he reconnected with a dear friend whose proposition would set in motion a series of events that would forever change the course of Dylan’s life.
“My friend mentioned his bike trip that he was doing, and he asked if I wanted to join. So, I returned home, procured a bicycle, and embarked on a journey that would span over 3,000 miles,” Dylan shared with an enthusiasm that mirrored the adventure itself.
Together, they embarked on an extraordinary odyssey, traversing a remarkable 3,500 miles through the heart of 13 European countries. Along their meandering path, they engaged with locals. They savoured the rich tapestry of global cuisines and found solace in different places each night. This transformative journey unfolded over more than five months, etching profound impressions on Dylan’s heart and soul.
A New Awakening
Upon returning to his homeland, Dylan found himself gripped by a powerful yearning for another cycling odyssey. He cherished the liberating sensation that accompanied self-propelled travel, the bonds formed through chance encounters with fellow travellers, and the enriching conversations that naturally blossomed along the way.
Dylan’s latest aspiration has taken the form of a daring plan. It is to circumnavigate the entire coastline of Lake Superior astride his trusty bicycle. Armed with nothing more than his bike and a backpack cradling essential provisions, he is poised to embark on this 45-day odyssey. It is slated to commence in early September from the picturesque town of Duluth, Minnesota.
