Two men have been accused of looting high-end bikes and other expensive parts from the storage of 7x Tour De France champion, Lance Armstrong. This not being their first theft, they have been involved in other storage unit burglaries as well, and are supposedly residents of Austin. 

The police report further stated that the incident took place somewhere between December 10 and December 12, 2023. While trying to value the worth of the stolen property, the amount was estimated to be more than a whopping $100k. As the investigations are in full swing, let us learn some more details about the case. 

What are the things that were stolen?

As per the statement released by the police, here is a list of the prized possessions that were stolen from Armstrong’s ExtraSpace Storage Unit. With that being said, let us look at what things went missing from the cycling legend’s armory. 

Among the missing items, a 2023 Ventum GS-1 gravel bike was listed. It had a Shimano GRX Di2 electronic shifting along with Zipp Carbon wheels that amounted to $8500, according to the listing. Next, a 2016 Cannondale Super Six EVO road bike that had SRAM ETAP electronic shifting and Zipp carbon wheels was also missing, being valued at $10,500.

Other items included a 2010 Trek Madone road bike, valued at $50,000, a 200-2002 Trek S500 frame with Shimano Dura-Ace components worth $6500, and a custom mountain bike worth $30,000, which was found missing from the 7x Tour De France champion’s storage.

Similar cases associated with the accused men unearthed 

36-year-old Shaun Thompson and 33-year-old Ethan Harms have been taken into custody for the burglary. While taking a sneak peek at their history, the police department was surprised to find out that they have been marked as suspects in various similar cases too. It included stealing from storage spaces as well as from residential apartments. The involvement of Thompson and Harms was confirmed from the closed-circuit surveillance footage.

The suspects have been charged with a third-degree felony, which can potentially see the duo end up serving up to ten years of jail time. Armstrong’s assistant, a 30-year-old CEO of a renowned memorabilia company in Houston helped the department to estimate the loss. According to the official statement, the losses incurred amounted to $105,800. It is still not clear whether any of the said amounts have been recovered or not.
