This time, the GP Sven Nys witnessed a shift in tactics as Van der Poel’s rival, 29-year-old Wout van Aert seized the holeshot to expound his dominance since the onset. However, Van der Poel swiftly took charge and established an insurmountable lead, capitalizing on his technical expertise.

The cyclist even shared how he thoroughly enjoyed the experience, “This is the most fun as a cyclocross rider, a very technical course with those deep ruts. It was difficult, but the fairest and most fun.” It was his precision and finesses as he pedaled through the deep ruts, that set him apart.

As a result of this, he rose above while navigating through the challenging course at a remarkable pace. Followed by a brief tussle with Van Aert, Van der Poel got propelled to maintain a steadfast winning streak, implementing the fine blend of mastery and comfort. It thus helped the cyclist to survive in challenging cyclocross conditions.

Clash of cycling titans

The difference in the time lapse between the Dutch cyclist and his Belgian rival has been only 1 minute 55 seconds. Despite Van Aert exerting his valiant efforts to be at the lead, Van der Poel’s relentless dominance left the Visma-Lease a Bike rider trailing behind. Van der Poel’s cyclocross wizardry proved to be the catalyst in the muddy section as he catapulted ahead steadily.

In the meanwhile, Pim Ronhaar of Baloise Trek showcased commendable resilience and gave tough competition to Van Aert, ultimately securing third place. Lars van der Haar, on the other hand, capitalized on his dominance on the competitive field, securing the fourth position in the X20 Trophy standings.
