Today?s story is exactly along those lines. Toon Aerts was riding the highs of his life seven years back. He registered his maiden major triumph at the European Cyclocross Championships held at Pontch?teau.?
However, life knocked him back with a brutal blow after being hit by a two-year doping suspension. But the good news is, the ban is about to end and Aerts is gearing up again.?

Everyone in the realm of cycling tagged Toon Aerts as one of the next big things. This was because he defeated the likes of Wout Van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel in the Cyclocross. After the news of Aert testing positive for doping broke out, the entire community, including the Belgian, was shocked.?
As it happened, the 30-year-old cyclist tested positive on January 19, 2022. He was found to be using Letrozole, a drug used for metabolites of breast cancer. This was a banned substance as the drug had the power to resist the feminine traits in a male?s body that can develop after using anabolic steroids.?
As soon as the results came out, Aerts? hopes of competing in the 2022 UCI Cyclocross were dashed. He immediately protested against the result and stated that it might be a result of a contaminated supplementation.
However, this debate did not hold strong as he succumbed to a two-year-long ban.? As February 2024 approaches, Toon Aerts is waiting eagerly to make his return. February 15, 2024, will officially mark the end of Aerts? suspension.
The cyclist stated that although he felt nervous, he was not fearful, ? I don’t feel fear. Why should I? But the closer I get to my return, the more nervous I will become. It will be special after two years. There will be some stress, although I have now learned to just work hard. Go with the flow.??
The Belgian also commented on his ban, saying it was unfair.?

Although his argument did not stand, Toon Aerts remained fixated on it. He pointed out that his trial was unfair.
The 30-year-old further said that he would never accept the fiasco and would remember how he was punished wrongly. However, the cyclist also stated that once the verdict was out, he did not have much to do except wait for the period to end.?

Now that the future is looking bright, Aerts has kept as many as three tournaments in his pipelines. He plans to participate in Sint Niklaas on February 17, Brussels on the 18th, and finally Oostmalle, which will be the final one of this season as well.?
