As per the leads provided by the investigator from the Road Policing Unit, PC Tom Robinson, “The cyclist accepted being at fault in the first instance and demonstrated remorse from the outset but his lapse in concentration has left a man with life-changing injuries. The sentencing of the cyclist and the weight of remorse
Being subjected to the consequences of his actions, the law handed Pietrzyk a suspended jail sentence of eight months. This continues to hang over him for a period of the next 18 months. The cyclist expressed remorse for the damage caused and pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm by furious driving. Despite the cyclist’s remorse, the law has held him accountable for exercising reasonable care on the roads.
Although the pedestrian managed to survive, he was left with life-changing consequences, which the memory loss has added to further complexities. The enduring impact on the pedestrian’s life exposed the need to undergo a broader discussion on road safety. A few months back, in August, two cyclists were involved in two separate crashes within a time of only 11 minutes on the same Cambridge street, further highlighting the urgency of road safety measures.
