Leaving one such legacy behind, the tragic news of Robert Dickie Jr.’s untimely demise had the sports community mourning their sudden loss. Sadly, his vibrant journey was etched in golden accomplishments, highlighting a life that was taken too soon. 

As a powerhouse within the Trinidad and Tobago cycling fraternity, the 44-year-old had earned multiple roles in the sport, beginning as a cyclist with national glory. Earning his righteous spot as the Vice President of Racing, Ronald’s prospects knew no bounds. However, his charismatic feats were suddenly halted when a painful stroke brutally took him away, leaving his near and dear ones in unimaginable grief. 

Late cycling professional earned fruitful roles

Evidently, Ronald Dickie Jr. was more than a cycling professional; his voice also amplified the excitement at events across the entire nation. Rising from a family deeply rooted in cycling spectacles, his course of life encompassed a spectrum of skillful roles, secured by his true passion for the game. 

Evolving from the national racing arena, he had seized a certified commissaire badge with his meritorious experience. Remarkably, he even transcended barriers to become a popular announcer, infusing adrenaline into every cycling event with his engaging commentary for nearly a decade. Thus, the fateful news of his death on December 1 was a brutal blow to locals who were unable to accept the unforgiving stance. He passed away at the Port Of Spain General Hospital.

Becoming the renowned voice of cycling, Dickie Jr. gained appreciation for his presence in numerous events, both for local and international crowds. As one of the most iconic announcers in TT’s sports, his astounding narrative was marked in races like the National Cycling Championships and Cycling on D Avenue.

Versatile soul’s admirable abilities lost forever 

Subsequently, the Tobago International Cycling Classic was another prestigious game where Dickie’s graceful approaches had been recorded. The Tour of Barbados and Tour of Tobago were other notable stances where his knowledge of cycling captivated the audience.

Interestingly, the cycling icon came from a passionate family, with his father, Ronald Dickie Sr, being a vice president of cycling in his time. His uncle Desmond had been a national coach, while his mother Patricia was a racing secretary. Additionally, Dickie’s brothers were also cyclists, unveiling the flow of athletic prowess in his family tree.

Michael Phillips, a former national cyclist, and his companion, reminisced on social media about Dickie’s instrumental role in kick-starting cycling events. Similarly, Gary Acosta, a local cyclist, highlighted his multifaceted persona, emphasizing a gentle reminder of his ever-smiling countenance.

Shrouded in suddenness, Ronald Dickie Jr.’s unfortunate passing cast a shadow over the local cycling community. While the specifics of his departure remained undisclosed, the former player’s dreadful loss spoke volumes about his influence on friends and family. Arranging for his funeral, Dickie’s family is praying for his soul, still struggling to believe the harsh reality.
