5-Time Slovenian Road Cyclist of the Year Parts Ways With Jumbo-Visma to Focus on the 2024 Tour de France

Jumbo-Visma, one of the leading cycling teams, faces one of the biggest setbacks of the season. Their main cyclist, Primoz Roglic, parted ways with the team. He plans to join Bora-Hansgrohe. The 33-year-old cyclist decided to part ways to focus on the 2024 Tour De France.

Roglic had a contract till 2025, but a better offer prompted him to change. He will have his farewell race for Jumbo-Visma on Saturday. However, the loss of Primoz is a tough loss for the team. Hopefully, he wins his last race for Jumbo-Visma.

The focus of Primoz is winning the 2024 Tour De France. He will participate as a team leader for Bora-Hansgrohe as announced by them. The rider is in prime form after winning the Giro d Italia in the month of May. He is also the winner of the Spanish Vuelta for the year 2019-2021. However, the cyclist only lacks the title of the Tour De France and will work hard towards it.

Primoz started the season for Jumbo-Visma by winning his race. However, Jonas Vingegaard retained his title in the month of July. Roglic shared his reason for moving while speaking to apnews:

Explaining his transfer, Roglič said: “The decisive factor was that the team is really motivated to work with me, and that we hold the same ideas.”

Roglic started his career as a ski jumper before switching to cycling. His partnership with Jumbo-Visma lasted for eight long years. During his time with Jumbo-Visma, he won many titles and helped the team grow. The 33-year-old won an Olympic Gold Medal in the road time trial held at the Tokyo Games 2021.

However, as a professional athlete, you need to take tough calls. For Primoz, it will be tough to make a switch at this stage of his career. Hopefully, he can work towards his Tour De France title successfully.

Huge Loss for Jumbo-Visma

Jumbo-Visma will suffer in the upcoming season after Roglic’s departure. A cyclist of this caliber contributes a lot to the team. However, there are many good cyclists that the company can rope in. Replacing him will be difficult, but the team must move on.
