Cycling apart from being a passion has now become a sustainable trend based on the growing impact of air pollution and global warming. The Bike Revival program organized by Cycling UK aims to make cycling more accessible among the community of non-cyclists.

Active Travel England, being the primary sponsor of the event, has transformed the notion of the people who are not regular cyclists by elevating the appeal of the activity reaching out to more people. Based on a recent development, the program is set to break through the non-regular cyclist community.

Stepping into its ninth season, the Big Bike Revival program has now been extended till March 2025. The main reason behind the extension is that the program has accomplished a substantial funding boost, amounting to £4 million.

In their undertaking of opening up more opportunities for individuals, they have arranged dual sessions of ‘learn to fix’ and ‘learn to ride’ to improve the cycling skills of the enthusiasts. The guided group rides ensure an inclusive cycling opportunity encompassing not-for-profit organizations and local community groups.

About the extensive sponsorship, Sarah Mitchell, the chief executive of Cycling UK shared her views with Bikebiz. “We estimate that over 40 per cent of adults in England have access to a bike, but only one in six of them cycles more than once a week. So this significant new funding will enable us to spread the benefits of cycling to even more communities, improving health and wellbeing and saving people money in a cost of living crisis,” she said.

The program along its journey toward growth has garnered a track record of enhancing the number of cycling enthusiasts who choose cycling daily as a mode of commute. According to the data acquired from the year 2022, more than one-third of the participants who took part in the program replaced driving cars with cycling as their preferred transport for short trips.

While providing detailed statistics, Mitchell even highlighted the benefits cycling has on the overall physical health and well-being of individuals. In addition, the two-wheel rides also reduce the financial burden that comes from the fuel cost.

Apart from propagating the positive impacts on health and financial conditions, Chris Boardman, the National Active Travel Commissioner, emphasized the urgency of instilling confidence in the non-cyclists to take up the sustainable form of transport.
