A cyclist lost his life on Maryland Route 355 in Germantown on Wednesday night after being hit and fatally injured. The cyclist was a local resident himself who went for his normal ride.
The Montgomery County police and fire rescue personnel were dispatched to the southbound lanes of MD 355/Frederick Road between Gunners Branch Road and Plummer Drive at around 9:45 p.m. following a crash. After, the initial crash they rushed the victim to the hospital.
According to authorities, David Glenn Jenkins II of Germantown, who was 28 years old, sustained critical injuries and did not make it. The sound of the crash alarmed the local people, and they rushed to the spot. Witnesses reported that Jenkins was struck while crossing the road. The impact was so intense that others heard it from down the block.

The crash happened at an instance
According to the local residents, the crash happened very quickly and without warning. The cyclist was driving in his own lane when suddenly he got hit by a car. To the surprise of the parents, the crash took place just two blocks away from a school bus stop. Alarmed by the situation, the parents of the children have contacted the local authorities. Their main concern is related to the safety of their children who use the bus stop on a regular basis. According to the locals, the driver did not flee away from the scenario. It is also not clear whether the driver would face any charges as of now. According to the polices sources they are trying to find whether there was any other car involved or not.
“The speed limit is like 45 mph, but if you see, they’re not running like 45 mph, they’re probably like top of the 50s,” father Ricardo Aparicio said.

Over speeding of cars has always created a problem
The local people living in the area have always faced problems of over speeding. The drivers never follow the speed limit and always drive at a speed more than required. One of the residents mentioned that last year, there was a similar incident where a woman got badly injured because of the over speeding drivers. According to the reports, the woman was trying to prevent a child from running into the streets before she got hurt.

A 28- year old guy lost his life because of an over speeding incident which could have been avoided. The local authorities need to take some strict actions in order to stop such accidents. It is also the responsibility of the parents to make sure their children are also safe.
