Cycling Ride Turns Into Tragedy After Man Loses His Life at a Charity Event

Charity events have always been a backbone for raising social awareness in society about certain things. Many personalities and even common people participate in these charity events to contribute to society in the best possible way. However, there are some tragic times when even a pure act like charity turns into a horrific scene.

A man loses his life during a charity event

A 60-year-old Burbank man lost his life during a charity event. The deceased is identified as Roy Wiegand. He was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle on San Miguel Canyon Road in Prunedale. During this charity event, Roy was only a few miles away from completing his charity ride. One of the most heartbreaking aspects of this event is that Roy told his friends that the charity run will be lasting a month, and he was all ready for it to raise money. The money was raised for the Navajo Nation. After the brutal hit, Roy was instantly pronounced dead by the California Highway Patrol.

Roy was not on the first ride of his career. He had been on many rides to raise money for charity.

Roy and his Charity Cause

Steve Ferguson, one of the friends of Roy Wiegand, addressed the whole scenario and mentioned, “He was the most friendly, positive, caring person anyone could ever meet. One of the guys, who lights up the room. Every year he chose a cause to generate press and raise money. He left Burbank and rode towards Gallup, New Mexico. Then he rode to Flagstaff and then to Las Vegas through Death Valley and then to San Francisco and then Santa Cruz.”

When this hit on Roy happened, he was about to travel to King City. He had also updated his Facebook status, after which destiny took a cruel turn. The charity event which took the life of Roy was raising $25,000 to bring hygiene in water supplies and improvement in solar power systems for the betterment of the people of the Navajo Nation. Though he lost his life for a good cause, it is very sad to accept that such a pure soul had to leave in such a tragic way.
