It was an intense battle at the President’s Circuit in La Aurora de Heredia. While Alba was racing past his opponents, there was an intimidating peril lurking. In hot pursuit of the Colombian was Kevin Rivera, the promising youngster from Costa Rica. Both cyclists could be seen going toe to toe with each other. As the crowd waited with bated breaths, it was Alba who had the last laugh.
Alba managed to maintain a 55-second lead against Rivera. The Costa Rican tried hard to mend the gap but failed eventually. This slimmest of the lead proved to be the deciding factor in the end, crowning Alba as the champion. However, Juan Diego Alba’s triumph in the Vuelta A Costa Rica 2023 is not an exclusive event. Colombia continues to dominate Vuelta a Costa Rica
As Juan Diego Alba was showered in constant praise and admiration, he became the latest to join the Colombian legacy in the tournament. In the 2022 edition of the tournament, it was Marco Tulio Suesca who made Colombia proud by picking up the victory. In fact, the dominance of Colombia can be attributed to the fact that out of the 57 times the tournament has taken place, Colombian cyclists have come out triumphant on 22 occasions.
However, although Kevin Rivera lost by a whisker to Alba, Gabriel Rojas did manage to bring smiles to the Costa Rican audience. He successfully managed to secure a stage, thus proving his mettle as a promising star of the future.
