Caroline Ward serves as the coach and a respected member of the Andover Triathlon Club. After making up their minds about taking on the challenge, the duo gathered a team of 10 trained professionals to accompany them along the way. These cyclists were further aided by a back rider, a mechanic cum bus driver, and a guide.
They commenced their journey from Ho Chi Minh City which is located to the south of Vietnam. This was not an easy start at all as the team had to counter unbearable humidity coupled with scorching heat. Along their way, the team paddled for 313 miles while climbing a staggering 2,979 m. One of the most challenging phases came when they had to overcome the challenge of the Hai Van Pass. This pass required a strenuous climb of 10.2 km with an elevation of up to 600m.
Reminiscing about their journey, Caroline informed that the group had the most tiring day when they cycled for 103 km straight on one occasion. However, during their adventure, Caroline and his daughter had a lot of blissful moments too. They took the liberty to kayak and snorkel in the waters of the South China Sea. The duo also had fun while staying on a private tropical island. They feasted on sumptuous street delicacies and also danced to their heart’s content.
Ultimately, the journey came to an end when the team reached the chilly city of Hanoi, in the north. As Caroline was too excited to complete her mission, let us hear what she had to say.
