Hanna Tserakh won the second round of the Tour of Chongming Island. She defeated Martina Fidanza (Ceratizit-WNT) and Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ) in the sprint event. Stage two started from the neighboring island of Changxing, crossing the Yangtze estuary. The race was full of surprises as different riders took the lead at different stages.

Initially, Olga Zabelinskaya led the race before gasing out in the final stages. The last day of racing starts on Saturday with 112.3 km left in the race. Tserakh is currently leading the race and will look to maintain her lead in the race.

Hanna showed her class in the sprinting part of the race. In the remaining part of the race, Li Ning Star Ladies positioned their sprinter very well. Tserakh came into the race and claimed the 128.6km stage from Shanghai to Chongming. This is the first UCI road race in 2023 for the young cyclist. With the time bonuses, Tserakh now leads, one second ahead of stage 1 winner Mylène de Zoete, and two seconds ahead of Consonni.

However, in events like these, teamwork becomes very important. Cyclingnews shared some experiences of Hanna.

“My team did a perfect lead-out for me, and this is my first big win, it feels incredible. My team did a good job, thanks to all of them and our staff members. I haven’t raced for a long time, so I’m happy with this result,” Tserakh said after the stage.

Laura Tomasi (UAE Team ADQ) led the initial part of the race. However, Zabelinskaya then seized the opportunity to take the lead in the race. When the peloton descended towards Chongming Island, she accelerated and took the lead. She dominated the race but got caught out in the last part of the race. The final stage of the race is 112.3 km long and will proceed on Saturday.

A Battle of Endurance and Teamwork

The Tour of Chongming Island is a race that requires everything. It requires both endurance and speed. The cyclist has to cover a distance of 128.6 km. Also, it’s a team event which makes teamwork and coordination very important. The teams need to plan the races according to the situation. It’s a tough job to cover 128.6km and planning the race is very important.

The remaining part of the race has 112.3 km left. It will be interesting to see how the teams approach the race. Whether Hannah and her team will dominate the race? Or the other teams will catch up to them? With 112.3 km left, there is a possibility of major turnarounds. Hopefully, the best team wins the race.
