A chilling drama unfolded as a climber fought for his life while grappling with the unforgiving might of an avalanche. It was the brave souls of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team who embarked on a heroic odyssey and brought into control the unpredictable whims of the Highlands.
The dramatic rescue mission lingered for seven hours to evacuate the climber from the top of Coire an t-Sneachda in the Highlands where he had trigged the snowslide. The video has been posted from the official account of the rescue team on Facebook that showcases a courageous rescue attempt in the backdrop of a snow-blanketed landscape.

The incident took place on December 6, Wednesday when the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team received a call at around 4:30 p.m. The Cairngorms are popular among climbers because of their towering peaks and snow-laden slopes. It was when the climber was navigating the descent from Central Gully, he inadvertently triggered an avalanche and got caught amidst the chaotic cascade of snow.
The climber’s fall led to a lower leg injury that further added to the urgency of the situation. On receiving the call, the rescuers team showcased their tactical prowess in the face of the unpredictable fury of nature. The climber battled with cold and a leg injury, while his climbing partner remained on the belay rope unharmed.
A spokesperson of the rescue team explained the rescue process in an interview with STV News, “After some rewarming the casualty with the lower leg injury was packaged into a stretcher and carried out to the ski area, whilst the other climber was able to walk out.” The meticulous execution of the rescue plan has been truly recommendable.

Even though initially, the rescue team was faced with formidable challenges as they made their way to reach the stranded climber. Their efforts along with strategic skills demands recommendation as they first decided to transport the climber and his partner to a safe skiing area. It was around 10:30 p,m that the rescue team along with the climber duo returned to the base marking their challenging yet successful mission against the elements.

The unfortunate event of the climber getting struck by nature’s wrath occurred just after a day after the avalanche that was triggered on Tuesday. The site was below Ben Macdui’s summit toward Tailler Burn and the rescue team had already conducted a search operation on the debris. The back-to-back avalanche has led to five flood alerts being issued across Scotland and two yellow weather warnings for heavy rain making the site threatening for the climbers.
