In an interview with Kent Online, Keith expressed his motive behind taking up the initiative, “I’m always encouraging people to go climbing and obviously if those people get in trouble it is Mountain Rescue who save them so we wanted to give something back to them.”

Set to take place in all three locations at the same time, the program will be covering Catbells in the Lake District, Great Ridge, Mam Tor in the Peak District, and Pen Y Fan in Wales.

A grateful gesture through an illuminating tribute

The name of the initiative has close links with the demonstration the charitable event promises to provide. Keith has come forward to honor the aid Mountain rescue teams provide whenever a climber is in distress. Therefore, as an expression of honoring the unsung heroes the participants will be ascending these peaks with the torches on the helmet turned on.

With this move, the picturesque peaks will be adorned with glittering lights. This will be a unique initiative to honor the ones who have dedicated themselves to rescuing mountaineers. Although it is difficult to track the exact number of participants, Keith is hopeful about the initiative and is confident that the mission will draw a considerable amount of enthusiastic climbers. Till now the “Light Up the Mountains” initiative has been successful in raising £8000 bringing it nearer to its goal, aspiring for £10,000.
