Love is an absolutely beautiful feeling. It can make you run from one end of the world to another without a second thought. Even besides that, there is nothing more serene than being able to recognize and commit to the person you love. ‘How I Met My Partner’ stories are often the most endearing, sweetest, or most unexpected ones that you will have ever heard. Today’s story is no different. It involves a meeting of pure chance at a place that no one particularly inhabits for too long. We’re talking about a couple that first met on Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and are now getting married.
That’s right, Susan Kilcline and Jonathan Crowe are now married after meeting atop the African peak over six years ago.
From hiking to marriage

The couple met while trying to achieve the most impressive feat in their lives at that point. Little did they know that they would be leaving with a lot more than just the experience of scaling Africa’s highest peak. It took the duo ten days to complete their climb to the summit. Rather sweetly, Susan claimed that the support that they gave each other empowered them to ensure that they made it to the summit.
“I struggled on summit night and Jon has been my rock and best friend ever since. We found that a 10-day climb on a mountain speeds a relationship forward no end,” Susan said. Even their proposal in 2021 reflected their journey so far, with Jonathan asking for Susan’s hand in marriage while on a hike near Torc Waterfall in Kerry.
The duo proceeded to tie the knot in Tankardstown House in August 2023 in the presence of close family and friends. The couple even included their beloved dogs in the ceremony as ring-bearers.

A wedding in nature
The outdoorsy duo were certain about having their wedding in nature and, fortunately for them, even the weather cooperated. Susan was full of praise for her bridesmaids, who ensured the wedding went through smoothly. The couple even celebrated their special commitment to each other with an impressive Kilimanjaro cake.
Speaking to Dublin Live, Susan said, “My biggest memory of the day is the feeling of warmth and love that washed over us. All the most important people in our lives were there to celebrate our love.” One can do no better than wish the couple a happy life together.
