Who doesn’t love the story of an underdog? A story of inspiration and great passion has emerged from the cheerleading team at Buffalo High. The high school cheer team has created history with their first qualification on the National Game Day.
What makes their entry into the competition so special is that for the first time in Minnesota history, a Single Class A team qualified for the competition. While the cheerleaders have to be credited for their hard work and great performance, it will be criminal to ignore the efforts of the entire community in this journey.

Funds are there at the centre of any operation and are required in large amounts to sustain over a long period. The community chalked out a plan, with a $40,000 budget, that would help them cover everything they need.
They did everything in their power to raise funds, and no means were overlooked. Fundraising activities ranged from selling tees to car washes, as well as a Lil Miss Bison competition. The whole process of fundraising was divided into two categories, with short-term fundraisers and long form ones (four days).
“We are a small community, but everyone – all the parents came together – the coaches, the girls have worked hard and our community really showed up so it took that burden away,” said Stacy Hobba, a mother of two team members.
Thanks to all the effort and love from the community, the Buffalo High cheer team made history, and the captain shared a few words to describe the moment and how it felt.

The school organized a pep-rally to uplift their spirits and give them a happy send-off. It was a sea of blue and gold as the team performed the rally before their historic competition started in Florida.
The captain of the cheer team at Buffalo High, Brianna Ellis, highlighted just how important the win was for them. She said, “Extremely emotional we were all like crying. Yea – we were all crying it was crazy – this is the first time this team has won anything.”

They not only reached their target of $40,000 but went way above par and finished at $55,000 by the end of the duration. It was this very enthusiasm by the community and the money raised, combined with the team’s skill, that granted them a step into the competition. Now on the cusp of making history, the team is all set to compete on Saturday, February 10.
