Two Months After Losing Their 15-Year-Old Cheerleader Daughter in a Horrifying Tragedy, Family Yearns for Justice While Navigating Through the Thanksgiving Void

As the holiday season sets in, families are gearing up with their preparation to have the best moments with their close ones. However, in the case of the Kalkbrenner family, this holiday season they are struck with an irreparable void. The tragic demise of the 15-year-old cheerleader, Samantha Kalkbrenner left the family grappling with an immense loss.

Since Kalkbrenner’s death, the family speaks out for the first time and Channel 11 provides an insight taking us through the family’s journey of coping with the grief. As they navigate through experiencing challenging emotions of the approaching Thanksgiving without her, they await the justice of the cheerleader’s death.  

The remembrance of Samantha on the two-month mark

It has been two months since the 15-year-old Serra Catholic cheerleader was killed in a car collision on September 20 in Dravosburg. However, despite the passing of time, the pain is still fresh and the family gathered at her gravesite in memory of the two-month mark of her tragic demise. 

In an interview with Channel 11, Carl Kalkbrenner, the father of Samantha expressed his gratitude for the support they have received after his daughter’s when they visited the gravesite, “Every single time we’ve been here there’s either been people here already that we know, or they show up while we’re here, so we’ve never been alone.”

The emotional weight of the particular day, left the cheerleader’s father in melancholy as he cried the entire day. With the approaching of the festivities of Thanksgiving, the cheerleader’s family takes part in a prayer service through which they find solace in the face of unimaginable grief.  

Holiday spirit marred by the loss of the cheerleading talent

For the cheerleader’s family, Thanksgiving was a special time for the Kalkbrener family as they basked in the festive spirit in the companionship of just the three of them, Samantha and her parents.  However, as the festivities approach at an alarming pace, the family finds themselves under immense emotional pressure as they confront a void restricting them from carrying forward their family traditions.

Described by her father as “as close to perfect as a child can get,” the frustration mounts among the acquaintances of the cheerleaders family over the lack of investigation. One of the close acquaintances of the Kalkbrenner family, LaRue stated, “They deserve some type of closure, some type of answer. I just don’t understand why we haven’t had any names, we haven’t heard any charges filed. They’re just giving them little breadcrumbs and I don’t think it’s fair.” It has been two months and the Allegheny County police are yet to announce arrests or file any charges.

Amidst festive spirit, like the Thanksgiving holiday that has been so close to the heart of the Kalkbrenner family, the absence of the cheerleader serves as a poignant reminder of the family traditions getting altered forever. The family and close ones are hoping for a resolution that will bring justice to Samantha and the people she left an indelible mark on.
