The young girl had to face vicious taunts from the bullies centering on her beloved pet horse, and she was called ‘horse-girl.’ It did not stop with verbal taunts but escalated to physical attacks, which forced her to withdraw from Smithtown West High School altogether.

The 10th-grade cheerleader was bullied so badly and brutally that her parents decided to sell their house and leave the area they resided in. She has been facing relentless bullying for more than a year, including hair pulling and brutal beatdown. It was even filmed and posted online, and things went out of hand. Her emotional support and strength, her pet horse “was tragically killed in front of her by the veterinarian.”

She finally filed a suit against the tormentors. According to the filed lawsuit, the school, the school district, the Board of Ed, and the school superintendent were aware of the torture and trauma she had to go through.

Mark Secaur, the District Superintendent of Smithtown Central School said, “The district does not comment on matters pertaining to litigation, but we take all allegations regarding bullying very seriously…”. He further added, “We remain steadfast in our efforts to create and maintain a positive, safe and nurturing academic environment for all students.”

The lawyer representing the cheerleader in the suit, Kenneth Mollins, argued against it. She said, “The law requires that schools act in loco parentis, or, ‘as parents,’ while kids are in their care and custody.”

Mollins further told DailyBeast, “And it has become clear that schools cannot protect their students from bullying. They don’t have the staff, they don’t have the resources, the knowledge, or the know-how to protect students from violence by one student against another. There have been repeated cases, over and over and over again, where schools say they will take affirmative action. And then they do absolutely nothing.”
