Being on the receiving end of a robbery can be really traumatizing. It doesn’t matter if you are a layman or a renowned Olympic cyclist. In the heart of Essex, on the 27th of November, 2021 at 2:30 a.m. in the morning, Mark Cavendish and his model wife, Peta were attacked by a balaclava-clad gang. What happened after has shaken them to the core.
What’s worse was that the entire time, their 3-year-old infant son was present at the scene. Armed with large knives, the assailant gang made off with two luxury watches of Richard Millie that amounted to a total value of £700,000. Even though it was believed that the attackers carried out this plan to take in charge in charge of another sapphire Richard Millie watch worth £2 million that had been loaned to Cavendish for an awards ceremony. The CCTV footage has been found that provided the investigation process with leads.
The conviction process was elaborate and previously two men had been found guilty and are undergoing imprisonment sentences for being in part of the robbery. Two convicts, namely Ali Sesay and Romario Henry have been charged with two counts of robbery receiving 12-year and 15-year prison sentences respectively.
Tony Atkin, the Detective Chief Inspector shared his views with the Daily Mail stating, “This robbery was targeted and it was violent. More than anything else, it was carried out in front of Mark and Peta’s young family.”
Conviction of the Third Perpetrator
The incident had a devastating impact on the Cavendish family and Peta even shared that owing to the ongoing fear stemming after the knifepoint raid, they were considering selling their home. While she was in the early stages of pregnancy when this harrowing incident happened, the period of happiness and excitement was replaced by bouts of trauma and fear.

Even though 27-year-old, Jo Jobson during the trial asserted that he had no connection with the robbery, after 18 months of the incident, he voluntarily surrendered himself at the Chelmsford Police Station. Within two days Jobson was found guilty and was remanded in custody till his sentencing date to be scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday.
The fourth and remaining suspect, George Goddard is yet to be located and Atkin says about his arrest, “Goddard remains outstanding and we are continuing our efforts to locate him and I would reiterate my message to him, ‘you cannot stay hidden forever’. Those who may be helping you cannot help you forever. It is in your best interests to come forward.”

Even though Mark Cavendish had announced his retirement from professional cycling followed by his injury in the collarbone, he has made a triumphant comeback and renewed a one-year deal with Kazakh outfit Astana-Qazaqstan. Overcoming the trauma and shock posed by the robbery he now looks forward to grabbing victory in 34 Tour stage in collaboration with Eddy Merckx, the Belgian cyclist.
