Minnesota’s High School Cheerleading Team Is Soaring to New Heights With Gymnastics Techniques in Their Routines

The EPHS cheerleading team is working hard to make a name for themselves. Cheerleading as a sport is very challenging, as it requires a combination of many athletic attributes. However, the EPHS cheerleading team, with expertise in stunt work beforehand, has added gymnastics to their routine to amp things up!

The EPHS team will be featuring 9th-12th grade students. Since some of them are fairly new to the sport, it will be an exciting year for them, full of learning and new experiences. Everyone is anticipating their great performance this year and are looking forward to it!

Key to success: teamwork and coordination

With expertise in tumbling, acrobatics, and dance routines, their performance demands a lot of strength, flexibility, and precision which allows them to perform breathtaking stunts, which mesmerize the crowd. However, the team believes teamwork is the most important skill in cheerleading. Trusting your teammates enables you to perform daring feats.

While speaking to Eplocalnews, the coach of the team Valerie Song shared her thoughts regarding her team.

 “This sport is truly a team sport, as when you stunt you can’t do it with one person missing. This sport truly is about trust and honesty. What a lot of people don’t understand is these girls train just as hard and long as any other sport.”

Since the EPHS team is a sideline team, they train even harder, as they prepare a routine for the Homecoming Game and Pep Fest every year. The team also focuses on community services, and it organized its first annual cheer clinic this year. Most of the participants were young kids, mainly in 8th grade. The team plans to hold such clinics in the future as well.

Putting in a lot of effort to establish its reputation, team members are working extra hard to make sure they are physically fit as cheerleading, as a sport, takes a toll on the body, and it’s important to ensure the players are ready. The coach is also putting in all the effort to get the coordination and teamwork of the players on point. However, with the stunts that the team is pulling off, they are already the crowd’s favorites.
