“Just Became Their Cheerleader” – Marvel Studios President Celebrates Robert Downey Jr. As the Longstanding Support System for the Entire MCU Cast

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has captivated fans with its amazing visuals and allowing them to associate with their favorite superheroes. However, now is the time for some backstage story as the charismatic bond between Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr. has gained the spotlight.

Downey Jr. not only donned the iconic Iron Man suit but also became the unsung hero behind the scenes. The cinematic legend has evolved to be a cheerleader, mentor and most importantly a genuine friend whom every Marvel star celebrates. His journey of evolving into a big brother figure has found his way to Chris Evan’s surprise wedding.    

Downey Junior’s commitment and generosity wins hearts 

From its inception, Downey Jr. has become the cornerstone of the MCU and it had been the decision of Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios President who rooted for him. Even though it had been a risky casting choice, the actor ensured to reform the cinematic universe with his undeniable talent, wit and charm. 

Feige highlighted on Downey’s role as a mentor in an interview with Vanity Fair, “We used to joke and say that Robert was the head of the acting department because everybody there looked up to him. He took them all under his wing, but not in a subservient sense. He just became their cheerleader.”

The actor has turned out to be a cheerleader to his co-stars supporting them in both personal and professional capacities. Cheerleading for their talent and success, Downey Jr., leveraged his contract negotiations for the much-acclaimed Avengers; Age of Ultron in an attempt to escalate the salaries of his colleagues.

The mentorship transcends beyond the scene 

Gradually the man adorning the Iron Man suit on-screen transcended into the realms of superhero stardom and evolved to be a pseudo-mentor from being just a co-star. Downey’s wife Susan too attested to this fact and shared her views about Robert Downey Jr, “I was like, Oh right, he is the guy who is…I don’t want to say a mentor, but I just see him as the dude who knows a lot. He’s been through a lot of scenarios, both in life and in work, and has survived a lot.”

It was taking the advice and genuine support of Downey Jr., that many MCU actors traversed through the complex and competitive arena known as Hollywood. It was during Chris Evan’s surprise wedding that he had a reunion with his close-knit group even after stepping away from the character of Iron Man. 

Hence, the actor’s role as a cheerleader ensures that a familial atmosphere is created in the movie industry that transcends beyond the scene. Amidst much speculation of him receiving an Oscar for his role in the movie Oppenheimer, the impact of Iron Man still reverberates.
