The cheerleading team of the Burroughs High School awaits to make a groundbreaking moment as they are about to set their foot into uncharted territory. Unfolding as a historical chapter, the team will be debuting in the competitive realm of CIF-SS traditional cheer. 

As the air gets heavy with the touch of excitement and dedication, under the mentorship of their head coach, Stacy Crow, the team is gearing up to put forward their best performance at the competitive platform. The High School and the community eagerly await their noteworthy performance amidst the competitive arena.  

Burroughs cheerleading squad’s road to the cheer competition

This season of the Burroughs cheerleading program is marked with an exciting touch as it will be introducing the squad to the vibrant world of competitive cheer. In this way, the cheerleaders will get an opportunity to break free from their sideline and halftime routines and make their way to competing in CIF-SS traditional cheer competitions. 

The head coach of the cheerleading squad, Crow, expressed her views in an interview with The Daily Independent, “It’s exciting because it puts us on that level with all the other sports and that is not something that has always been there. That we are actually doing something besides standing on the sideline so I think it’s a really good opportunity for everybody to see that these girls are serious athletes. And that is what competition can show everybody.”

Marking a new chapter for Burroughs Cheerleading, the coach received an email informing them about the cheer competition. From that very moment, an electrifying spirit is running high through the team as they wish to grab the opportunity to showcase themselves as serious athletes. 

Building a legacy of competitive cheer

Besides the coach, it is the senior captains whose enthusiasm seems no bounds as they prepare to lead the team navigating their way through the competitive lanes. Even though there exists a lot of pressure in a competitive environment, they are finding solace in the reward of showcasing their skills on their own terms. 

As one of the senior captains, Julissa Martinez of the cheerleading squad said, “I think its ways more exciting to be on the mat in the spotlight. Everything is focused on you unlike a game where it’s the football players, its just you and you’re in the moment.”

The inaugural event will be witnessing the performance of the Burroughs cheerleading team. With an arduous journey that lies ahead, the coach sheds light on the dynamics of the competitive cheer event. On November 18, Saturday, the event will be hosting a practice run allowing the team to acclimatize themselves before venturing into the regional competition.

Even though it is not important whether the Burroughs cheerleading squad succeeds in making their way to grabbing victory. It is this experience and opportunity that will lay the foundation for the future seasons endowing them with enough experience to make history.
