Yet another evidence of reel-to-real takes place. The 21-year-old student from Glasgow receives the golden opportunity to take part in the Cheerleading World Championship to be held in Florida. Having experience, as meager as 3 years, Josh Craik always dreamt of living the big dream of performing on the international stage.  

A student of Forensic Investigations at the Glasgow Caledonian University, Craik’s life has undergone a significant transformation bestowed by his newly found passion for cheerleading. Beyond this intense passion for cheerleading, a Netflix series has played a significant role.  

Blooming love for cheerleading

Craik shared his life experience claiming that initially, he was lacking in confidence perplexed whether he would be pursuing cheerleading or not. As reported by Glasgow Times, he shared his thoughts, “At first, it was really daunting to be in the same team as everyone who had been there for years and years, but once that had passed it was what motivated me to prove that I am just as good.”

However, this feeling of apprehensiveness was soon replaced by a gush of motivation. In this transformation journey from being unsure about his competency to believing in himself, the Netflix series “Cheer” played a pivotal role. Inspired to give cheerleading a try after watching the show, he proceeded forward by taking the initial step of joining the local cheerleading team known as the All Stars and Stripes.

The cheerleading dream coming true

Within a short span of three years, Craik has learned the fundamentals of the sport and he gives credit to the team for spiking his confidence. Following this, his life took a remarkable turn when he received the prestigious opening to represent his country, Scotland in the Cheerleading World Championship. Starting his journey moving out from his hometown in Elgin to Glasgow, Craik now serves as a coach.  

Besides his preparation for the grand event, he has been planning a sponsored walk in an attempt to raise funds to assist his journey to Florida. As a part of the process, he will be donating 25% of the raised amount to the MS Society UK which exhibits his commitment to the community.

While his aim is fixated on the 2024 World Championships, in the long run, Craik wishes to return to coaching. His journey from a newcomer full of determination to receiving the honorable responsibility of representing his country at the Cheerleading World Championship reminds us that perseverance is the key to achieving success.
