“I’m Really Changing the World” – NFL’s First Transgender Trailblazing Cheerleader, Justine Lindsay, on Receiving Love From the World

To start something new requires immense courage. Breaking the stereotype and embarking on a completely different path will attract the eyes of the masses. Sometimes, in a negative way as well. History has shown us innumerable instances of people being demeaned for their beliefs. However, it is perseverance that matters, and continuing the journey despite all the hindrances shows the true character of a person. This is precisely what today’s story reflects. 

Justine Lindsay has been a phenomenon since she stepped foot in the NFL. Even though her path to the NFL was not smooth, Lindsay’s tremendous grit and willpower helped her to overcome a lot of hurdles, and people are even extending their warm wishes to the 31-year-old cheerleader. 

Justine Lindsay: A cheerleader in shining armor

Lindsay was always fond of dancing, and when the chance to audition for the TopCats came, it was a dream come true moment. However, even after creating history for being the first trans cheerleader of the NFL, criticisms came thick and fast. Lindsay was smart enough not to pay heed to them. She decided to give her haters back, not by talking but by her impeccable performances match after match. 

The 31-year-old believed in the principle of the former first lady of the USA, Michelle Obama, “When they go low, you go high.” Her struggle and hard work ultimately bore rich fruit as Lindsay began to impress people with her work. 

She stated recently, “To get those messages, like those DMs in my phone saying, ‘Your story just really empowered me to be a better parent for my child,’ and just say, ‘Thank you,’ you know, for my story. … It does something to you. It really does.” Lindsay, overwhelmed by the responses, continued, “It just lets you know, wow, I’m really changing the world.” 

Lindsay looks to continue her work and empower the generations to come. She wants everyone to have their right and not be afraid to speak up for one’s feelings.

In a historic moment for Lindsay, she fought against the North Carolina Fairness in Women’s Sports Act. This act prohibited all biological men from competing in female sports in middle and high school.

Cheerleaders in the world of sports have continued to be a symbol of grace, beauty, talent, and a powerhouse of energy. But surpassing every stereotype and shattering all boundaries, Lindsay has emerged as an inspiration. 

From having a strong affinity towards dancing from a very tender age to becoming the first openly trans woman cheerleader joining the ranks of NFL cheerleading, breaking the gender stereotypes, she emerged as an emblem of strength and determination.
