In a heartwarming tribute to an exceptional cheerleading soul, the Georgia Tech organization recently conferred a long-overdue honor. Remembering the vibrant persona of Leanna Piver, a spirited girl whose life was tragically cut short over two decades ago, the varsity officials shared their heartfelt take. However, this touching stance was initially provoked by her family’s requests, captivating cheers from the local community 

As a vibrant member of the varsity cheerleading team and a dedicated student, Piver won hearts until she was regrettably met with a fatal accident. Claiming a life at just 20 years of age, the deadly incident cast a shadow over her family on November 2, 1998. And now, despite the passing time, her memory continued to resonate deeply in her father’s mind, paving the way for her honorable posthumous degree.

Remembering her enthusiasm beyond cheerleading routines, Piver’s parents, Dave and Janet, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a unique request. Moved by her enduring legacy, the hopeful father urged Georgia Tech to recognize her academic prowess, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. 

While Piver’s parents saw their wishes come true, the late cheerleading star’s honorary degree announcement stirred emotions among those who remembered her. Evoking sentiments of pride and nostalgia within the Georgia Tech community, the venue successfully recalled Leanna’s memory, granting her a degree that she had worked hard for. 

Notably, Piver’s tragic departure from her cheerleading passions prompted an outpouring of support, with countless individuals flocking to the medical center. With crowds praying for her soul at the Grady Memorial Hospital, the young star was reported fighting bravely, but unfortunately, it all went south after a few days. 

Honorary remembrance extends beyond educational affairs 

As a spirited performer, Piver left an indelible mark on those she encountered, popularly known for her unwavering determination. However, over 25 years ago, the Georgia cheerleading community was left in shock when she succumbed to her injuries, recorded within five days of the fateful accident.

In a sudden twist of calamities, the cheerleading prodigy was taken away too soon, with her teammates mourning an infectious personality. As her family was forced to make the heart-wrenching decision to let her go, they grappled with the reality, struggling to believe its grim course. 

With a heart-touching recall of her cheerleading memories, Piver’s posthumous tributes delighted not just her family but also the entire Georgia community. Significantly, she was also noted to be famous for colorful communication skills, effortlessly turning strangers into friends as a beacon of warmth and camaraderie.

In commemoration of her cheerleading legacy, Leanna Piver’s family also worked closely with the university, planning to establish a funding campaign. Noted as the Georgia Tech Alexander-Tharpe Fund – Leanna Piver Endowment, they wished to ensure that her memory resonated with future generations of students.
