As Shelters embarked on her journey to securing the spot in the patriot Cheerleaders team, she underwent multiple attempts that, in turn, brought out the best of her capability. At the New England Patriots Cheerleading Clinic, she had a unique experience when she was paired with a girl needing special instruction.

This opportunity has been fruitful for Shelter in advocating her experience as a speech pathologist, ensuring that the girl overcomes her disabilities and has fun in the cheerleading sessions. Her passion for inclusion was instilled by her parents, who worked as nurses. Being part of the student council, peer leadership, and organizations like the Special Olympics led her to her passion of becoming a speech pathologist.

In an interview with Patriots, Shelter shared how her goals evolved with her age, “I went to school thinking I was going to be a teacher and then I learned about speech pathology, and I absolutely knew that was where my heart is and what I was meant to do.”

Shelters shared her motive behind amalgamating her two distinct passions, stating, “ I always looked up to the cheerleaders because as a little girl, you hope to be able to be like just like them. As I got older and I looked more into the role and realized it’s so much more than just wearing a uniform and cheering on your favorite sports team it just made me want to do it even more.”

She is all set to take her platform as a Patriots Cheerleader to another level in November when she will be attending the American Speech and Hearing Association convention to be held in Boston. All through this while, Shelters focuses on ensuring that the children are able to apply the skills that they have learned while making new friends as they yearn for a connection.
