The celebrations during the airshow took a fatal turn when a demonstration plane crashed claiming two lives. This accident took place at the Börgönd Aviation Day in Fejér county, central Hungary, at 3:20 p.m. local time. The deceased who died at the spot are reported as the 67-year-old pilot and his 37-year-old son. 

The four other passengers on the flight escaped the dreadful event alive but suffered severe burns. The severity of the incident regarding the  burning down of the flight to flame has left the country and beyond in shock. 

The swift assistance from the medical team to the crash site

Medical assistants exhibited their efficiency by swiftly responding to the accident amidst sorrow and chaos. Ambulances arrived to treat the injured at the site followed by three ambulance helicopters to transport the wounded passengers to the nearby hospitals. The video footage shows the small aircraft performing rotational movement before its ascent and descent and ultimately crashing to the ground. The plane crashed 200-300 meters away from a spot where cars were parked.

While authorities continued with their further investigation behind the occurrence of the tragic incident the airspace was declared off-limits canceling the air parade. The spokesperson for the Fejér County Disaster Management, Anett Szabó-Bisztricz informed Hungary Today, “The site has since been closed for the rescue and this year’s air parade has been cancelled with no aircraft allowed in the airspace.”

The rich history of the ill-fated plane

The plane that claimed the life of its owner and pilot, Vilmos Rózsavölgyi and his son, Árpάd Rózsavölgyi, was the North American Aviation T-28 Trojan. With Hungarian registration, the unique aircraft arrived in the country just two years ago. Before taking off, the deceased pilot recounted the flight’s rich history. The airplane involved in the crash has traveled across different countries including  Switzerland and South Africa and finally stationed itself in Hungary. 

Produced in the year 1951, during his tour all around the globe, the plane served in the US Air Force. Before returning to private ownership in Hungary, the flight was sold to France in the late 1970s. Investigations are performed to find out the root cause of the sudden plane crash that served so well throughout these years.

The aviation community is left mourning the loss of the deceased. With injured battling their lives at the hospital, prayers are with them for their fast recovery. The crash has left a deep mark on the community and the officials who are executing the scrutiny to come to terms with this sudden loss.
