Everyone has a dream of flying sky-high one day. It may never come true for some because of our busy schedules but few of us are lucky enough to experience one such sky adventure.

A Swindon-based air hostess has made a unique transition from the interior of an aeroplane to its exterior, all in the name of a noble cause. Gemma Lorains, 29, who serves as a cabin crew member for British Airways, fearlessly participated in a wingwalk charity event organized by Dreamflight.

Dreamflight is a charitable organization committed to funding and organizing an annual trip valued at £1 million to renowned Florida theme parks like Disneyworld and Universal Studios. This heartwarming initiative caters to 192 children between the ages of eight and 14, all of whom grapple with chronic illnesses or disabilities.

In a collaborative effort, volunteers including physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, cabin crew, and individuals in non-medical roles join hands to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during the flight and the ensuing adventure.

Dreamflight, established in 1987, has witnessed some of its participants blossoming into successful paralympians, having gained newfound confidence from this transformative experience.

Gemma was among a group of 12 brave individuals who embarked on the wingwalk at Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester, under the guidance of the Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers. This was Gemma’s second time participation, allowing her the exhilarating opportunity to perform a loop-the-loop in the skies alongside three other daring souls.

Reflecting on her involvement, Gemma expressed deep gratitude for having volunteered during the trip and experiencing firsthand the profound impact it has on the children. Witnessing the transformation of both the volunteers and the children proved to be an emotional and fulfilling journey for her. She aspires to participate in the trip itself once more, reminiscing about her time with the “Donald Duck” group—a Scottish region collective of volunteers, which inspired her to undertake the wing walk dressed as the beloved Disney character.

The wingwalk, a remarkable endeavour, has made a substantial impact on Dreamflight’s mission. From 2019 to the present, it has raised an impressive £70,975.10—an amount equivalent to covering the expenses for 16 children from a single region to partake in the magical trip. The donations for this year alone have already reached nearly £12,000, underscoring the enduring spirit of generosity and compassion that drives this incredible cause.
