“We Had a Snowstorm”: Man Behind the Zombie Boxing Trailer Featuring Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder Reveals Details of the Shoot

December 23, 2023, will be one of the most important and exciting days for the boxing community, as the all-in-one card in Saudi Arabia will feature boxing heavyweights, Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, and many more. However, while the D-Day is still a few days away, these superstar boxers faced off against each other in a different reality- as Zombies! 

As the trailer for the Day of Reckoning event has been released, the innovation and storytelling have arrested the interest of fans and critics alike. In the video, the athletes have appeared as zombies in a post-apocalyptic reality. With intense twists in every frame, let’s decode the viral trailer. 

Anthony Joshua & co. dons prosthetics for the video

The trailer starts with the visual of Anthony Joshua sitting face to face with Eddie Hearn signing a contract. However, one thing that immediately catches the attention is the peeling skin from the face of Joshua. Next, we can spot Deontay Wilder putting down zombies while riding in his van. It is later revealed that Frank Warren, the promoter of the fight, is a passenger inside the van. Warren looked terrified and wanted to flee the spot or else he would probably become the embodiment of the ghoul. 

The trailer oozed innovation at every moment. Such a well-executed trailer had to be done by a professional, and surely it was. Romain Chassaing, the renowned director, worked on the trailer while making everyone come together for the shoot. He mentioned the prosthetics donned by Joshua, Wilder, and others. While speaking about his experience with the shoot, Chassaing revealed a secret. The director said, “We had a snowstorm at one point in Sofia, and I didn’t plan to put snow in the film, but there was 50cm of snow on the set!” 

Nonetheless, Chassaing managed to overcome the hurdles and notched up a great promo. The director further went on to detail his experience of working with the boxers.

Chassaing expressed his gratitude towards all the fighters who featured in the video. He pointed out that the fighters had to undergo makeup for almost two hours straight. However, the patience and cooperation of the fighters were top-notch.

The Frenchman was also particularly pleased with how Anthony Joshua & Eddie Hearn executed their scene. He said that both the fighters went along well and shared a good laugh during the shoot.
