A referee is someone that is supposed to be overseeing the disciplinary proceedings in a match. However, sometimes, while trying to maintain the discipline, they get themselves into a huge tangle. An incident recently took place where a referee was seen getting chased first and then beaten up by a group of teenagers. As the incident itself was shocking, the fact that young kids performed such a demeaning act has made everyone sit up and take notice. 

The video portrays the sorry state of the man in charge of regulating the game. He ran around the entire arena, hoping the kids would refrain from any aggressive acts. Unfortunately, his prayers were not answered, and the situation escalated to a level that went against the spirit of the game. Let us take a closer look at what exactly happened. 

Brutal MMA-style attack from youngsters scripts referee’s failed escape

The video was uploaded by JCFights on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the forty-eight-second-long video, we witness a disgracing act by a group of young basketball players. The clip opened to what seemed like a normal day at business. A basketball match could be seen going on as somebody recorded the proceedings from the audience. After a brief period of balling action, the on-court referee blew his whistle for what looked like a break. 

It was at this exact moment that things began to go haywire. As soon as the whistle blew, the players could be seen calmly leaving the court. However, a group of teenagers appeared suddenly and began marching towards the referee. Sensing the danger, the one who was recording the video began to exclaim, “Oh no no no no..” The group could be seen having an aggressive conversation as other players also joined in. 

Soon after, the situation went out of control and the referee began to run away from the teenagers. Unfortunately, they were relentless and did not let the referee escape. They chased him down in a corner and unloaded an MMA-style fury on him. As the teenagers continued to assault the referee, wild kicks and punches became the order of the day. As the video came to a close, we could see the referee trying desperately to evade the wrath of the infuriated teenagers. 

Such an unnerving video was bound to be noticed by the audience, and so it did.

One of the users shared his personal opinion about today’s youth. Well, not to generalize, but the act was indeed shameful.

Another user, sharing his opinion, commented that the young players “weren’t raised properly”. Sometimes, families or parents cannot be blamed for the action of their children.

One fan commented on the fact that none came forward to help him. Indeed, an intervention was necessary.

While another Twitter user added that the other referee too did not step forward to save him from getting beaten up.

One fan commented, mentioning how the referee tried his best to fight back against all of them for a few seconds. He surely did, but it was not enough against the collective wrath of the youths.

As today’s video came to a close, the reason for the fury remains unknown. However, one must keep in mind that players need to maintain the sanctity of the game intact. Nothing should lead to a drastic and shameful act of putting one’s hands on the referee. Although there are no updates about the well-being of the referee, we wish him a speedy recovery.
