Jet Skiing adventure turns into a nightmare
In a devastating incident, former Tennessee legislator and esteemed figure in the Democratic Party, Roy Herron, tragically lost his life after a horrific collision with another jet ski accident on Kentucky Lake.
Roy Herron, a distinguished graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, held an esteemed place in Tennessee’s political landscape. He was not only a legislator but also an ordained Methodist minister and an accomplished author.
Unfortunately, Herron’s life was cut short by a tragic accident that occurred on July 1. Following the incident, he was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he fought bravely but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Internal bleeding and severe trauma to his arm and pelvis proved insurmountable obstacles. Eventually, this led to his death, leaving his loved ones and the entire state of Tennessee in mourning.
In the midst of this devastating loss, his wife, Rev. Nancy Carol Miller-Herron, shared heartfelt words about Herron. She said, “Roy loved his family with all his might.”
“He passed doing what he loved most—spending time with our sons and their friends in Tennessee outdoors where his spirit was always most free.” It is this passion for life and his love for the great outdoors that will forever be etched in the memories of those who knew him.
Tributes and out-pour of condolences
With news of Herron’s passing spreading, condolences have flooded in from all corners. Former Vice President Al Gore has referred to Herron as “a dear friend and one of Tennessee’s most devoted citizens.”

Herron’s contributions to Tennessee’s political landscape were profound. He served for a combined 26 years in the state’s House and Senate. There he held influential positions such as floor leader and caucus chair for the Democrats. Even during his tenure as chairperson of the state Democratic Party from 2013 to 2015, he continued to fight for the principles he believed in, always striving to make a difference.
Although it’s time to bid him farewell, we will remember Roy Herron’s unwavering commitment to his community and country. We should also keep in mind that Jet skiing, like any adventure sport, carries inherent risks. Hence, it’s crucial to prioritize safety at all times.
