Arrests Made in 2022 Altercation at NBA All-Star’s Residence

NBA All-Star Ja Morant cannot seem to escape controversy and continues to be embroiled in trouble. The latest being his close associate and teammate Davonte Pack getting arrested last night from his own residence. The law enforcements issued an arrest warrant for Pack just a week prior.

NBA players in turmoil

Davonte Pack was charged with misdemeanor assault in a complaint filed by the victim, Joshua Holloway, about a year ago. The altercation between the individuals took place in Ja Morant’s house during a pickup basketball game. An argument ensued between them and Holloway accused the close friends of blowing him with heavy punches.

Holloway was just 17 years at the time of the incident and he filed a lawsuit against the close friends after the violent encounter. Morant first admitted to hitting Holloway but retracted his statement later, claiming he only acted in self defence. The lawsuit filed by Holloway accused both of them of assault, abuse or neglect, reckless endangerment, and infliction of emotional distress, but Morant’s legal representatives worked day and night to get the lawsuit redacted.

They redacted the lawsuit on the grounds of self defence claims made by Ja Morant, who claimed he retaliated only after Holloway hit him on the chin with a basketball but after Pack too admitted to hitting Holloway, there was no stopping an arrest warrant being issued.

Ja Morant’s tryst with controversies

There are no criminal charges filed on the All Star player, but authorities issued an arrest warrant for Packer, that stated:

“Investigators were provided with medical records dated July 27, 2022, that show Holloway sustained bodily injury to include a hematoma to the scalp, sore jaw and headaches in the area of where Pack struck him.”

Just a week after issuing the warrant, authorities nabbed long-time friend, Davonte Pack from Morant’s residence. The legal team of the Memphis star, though, has filed a countersuit on Holloway, accusing him of slander, battery and assault. Morant’s off court behaviour has previously too been a topic of great discussion. After spotting a gun in his IG livestream on multiple occasions, most recently being after their loss to the Denver Nuggets, NBA conducted its separate investigation on the matters.

After serious conversations with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, he has promised to keep his behavior in check. He is currently serving a 25 game ban for his continuous offence and NBA officials hope that the player now comes under control.

With NBA being one the most coveted leagues of the world with a massive following of millions across the globe, it has the responsibility to ensure that the players behave in a respectful manner. The potential influence of athletes over the youth is unparalleled and the precedent they set is very important to the league and its longevity.
