Speaking to the media about the new Mustang, Farley called the project their most ambitious one ever, an idea that was in his head for over decades. Watching that dream develop into a reality is nothing short of a fairytale for Farley and there is great buzz in the air over the Ford Mustang GTD 2025.

Farley said to the media, “We take what we’re really good at, like a Mustang, and we do the unthinkable.”

“Like, take on the Europeans—punch for punch—at what they have been doing for decades. As an underdog. The vision for this is totally different than any high-performance Mustang we have. All the latest technology from our race car, but we actually put it on the street. That’s why I care so deeply about this car.”

An idea that birthed during a random conversation in the summer of 2021 while Ford was examining the GT3 race car’s performance.

At the time, they collaborated with Multimatic for the race car and in their performance review, Farley threw the idea of making a road car version. Multimatic founder Larry Holt, who was part of the review, responded positively and thus began the unpredictable journey of the GTD 2025.

The two companies assembled a small team whose sole focus would become the GTD 2025. T

The team consisted of both the company’s sharpest minds and hardworking souls. “Project Gold” was the name given to the ambitious idea and the team operated under maximum secrecy and maintained high confidentiality.

For the team to go from a plain idea to actual physical development of the idea within 18 months is no ordinary feat. The entire project took very precise and careful execution. The secrecy and attempt to maintain a low profile and operate such a large scale project was in itself a major task.

Greg Goodall, the chief engineer for ‘Project Gold’ was elated while talking to the media and said, “This Mustang was just an idea about two years ago. That’s how fast we’ve gone. Eighteen months later and here we are talking about the car with the media, very well into the development process.”
