The American state associations find itself amidst controversy once again. This time over the safety of women athletes and the legitimacy of a recently passed rule. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association is under scrutiny for its rule that allows transgenders to compete against biological women.
Where do they draw the line?
A North Carolina based volleyball high-school athlete Payton McNabb, while speaking to the media, has called for a change in the rules. This comes after a trans athlete sent the ball into her face back in September. The mishap left her with a concussion and neck injury and she still struggles with the effects of her injuries. Impaired vision, paralysis to the right side of the body, depression, anxiety, she lists the number of problems the incident left her with.

“Due to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association policy allowing biological males to compete against biological females, my life has forever been changed,” McNabb said.
“I’m here for every biological female athlete behind me. My little sister, my cousins, my teammates. Allowing biological males to compete against biological females is dangerous. I may be the first to come before you with an injury, but if this doesn’t pass, I won’t be the last,” McNabb said to the media.
Former All-American Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines also supported the legislation. “Watch the clip of Payton McNabb getting spiked in the face by a male competing with the women. Then watch her testimony she gave today for the first time publicly. I was honored to stand alongside her in NC to continue the fight to protect women’s sports,” she said in her tweet.

Divided opinions causing harm to the American society
McNabb’s stance has stirred a wide range of opinions within the community. Supporters of her viewpoint contend that implementing a transgender ban is crucial to maintaining a level playing field and preserving the spirit of fair competition. Biological differences between genders must be taken into account.
On the other hand, the other argues that transgender inclusion in sports is a matter of equality and inclusivity. They emphasize that transgender females undergo hormone therapy as part of their transition, which can significantly reduce any physical advantages associated with male puberty.

As the debate over transgender athletes participating in school sports rages on, there has been heated debate over banning transgender athletes from participating in female sports. While maintaining competitive balance is an issue, it is equally crucial to ensure equality and acceptance of transgender athletes. To guarantee that the rights and opportunities of all athletes are respected and protected, striking the proper balance will need careful consideration and collaboration among all parties concerned.
