The pain of losing a child is perhaps one of the greatest. South African rapper AKA or Kiernan Forbes’ death in February earlier this year left a huge void in the heart of his mother Lynn Forbes. Celebrating her first birthday without her beloved son, she shared her desire to scale the difficult terrains of Mt. Everest.

It also spoke about her first experience of climbing a mountain back in 2018. ‘Glammy’, as she was fondly called by friends and family, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to celebrate both the birth of her grandchild and her 50th birthday. Her new conquest will now be in the honor of her late son.

AKA, was a South African rapper who rose to fame after his hit single “Victory Lap”. He also established a business and produced music from time to time. Unfortunately, he was shot by two gunmen from point black range. His friend who accompanied him, celebrity chef Tibz Motsoane, also died in the encounter.

Months later, the investigations have revealed nothing and police have not made any arrests. They suspect it to be target killing, but do not possess any proof to back their claims.

Lynn Forbes’ decision to travel and hike to the base camp of Mount Everest has a deeper meaning than just adventure. A grieving mother is in the search for peace, tranquility and calmness amidst all the chaos and negativity. The fact that police have not made any positive progress must be disheartening for a mother.

“Kilimanjaro taught me humility, patience and gratitude … she showed me how truly small I really am. I’ve just turned 55. I feel detached from myself and reality. The mountain is calling and I must go.. to rekindle my spirit and nourish my soul,” said the silently grieving mother.
